During treatment
Diagnosis is reached through a combination of questions, observation,
palpation, pulse-taking and tongue examination. Depending on the
treatment required, loose fitting comfortable clothes will not need
to be removed.
Fine, sterile and disposable needles are then gently inserted at
certain points along energy pathways in the body, to regulate the
flow of energy and maintain harmony. Auricular and electro-acupuncture
may also be used if appropriate.
During acupuncture you may experience a dull vibration, pressure
or tingly sensation.
Moxibustion
In order to stimulate energy flows a smouldering herb - artemesia
vulgaris - may be used on or near the skin to warm acupuncture points.
Cupping
Washable glass cups are placed onto the body, helping to move stagnant
energy.
Other therapies may include gua sha or massage. Acupressure
is possible if needles are not appreciated.
After treatment
You can expect to feel calm. Some people feel exceptionally relaxed
after treatment. Individuals' experiences vary; for some people
improvements are evident immediately after treatment whilst for
others the effects are more subtle.
