What can be treated?
Please feel free to inquire
if something that you suffer from can be alleviated.
How many treatments will I need and how often?
This varies for each individual case as it depends on the person
and nature of the ailment being treated. Frequency and number of
treatments will be discussed in person. You should notice some improvement
by 5 treatments.
How can I prepare for treatment?
- Your tongue reveals valuable information as part of the diagnostic
process so avoid changing its colour and coating before a treatment.
- To optimise the effect of a treatment it is inadvisable to eat
a heavy meal beforehand. This is so that the body's resources
are not otherwise engaged with digestion.
- Please make a note of the name and dosage of any prescribed
or over the counter medication, supplements or natural remedies
that you are currently taking and bring these details to your
appointment.
What should I wear?
ISIS and herbal medicine consultations are preformed fully clothed.
Acupuncture may require the removal of clothing depending on the
necessary treatment. Towels are available to preserve modesty and
warmth.
Does acupuncture hurt?
During treatment you may experience a dull, aching, pressure or
tingly sensation.
Is acupuncture safe?
As a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) a strict code
of practice must be observed with regards to hygiene and safety
standards. Only sterile, single use, disposable needles are used.
Is herbal medicine safe?
Chinese herbs are very safe when prescribed correctly by a properly
trained professional as regulated by the Register of Chinese Herbal
Medicine (RCHM). They are carefully considered for their therapeutic
effects, contraindications and drug interactions. Allergic reactions
are rare, and like with food can not be anticipated. If in any doubt
contact your herbal practitioner.
Should I tell my doctor I am having treatment?
If you are currently receiving treatment from your doctor, it is
advisable to tell him or her about your plans. Also you should always
tell your practitioner about any medication you are taking as this
may affect your response to the treatment. Please bring your doctor's
contact details.
